few of my favorite things - part 1

There are a few reasons for this post today: 1) It's that time a year when Oprah shares her favorite things (part 1 of her final season was yesterday), and while I'm not a billionaire or celebrity or even that big a deal around here (tiny Anchorman reference for the die-hards), I thought, "hey, let me give the people something too!" At first I was going to create a flash-animated gift box, which when pressed would reveal a rapidly spinning remote control graphic for a brand new 3D t.v. to be gifted to all my readers.  But then I realized I don't know how to work with flash animation all that well (and that really was the only inhibiting factor). Soooo, I decided instead to go with a more sophisticated and understated approach and offer some information on some of my favorite things (you can barely contain your "just-got-a-diamond-watch-on-top-of-a-cruise-on-top-of-cashmere" excitement right??).

Now on to the slightly more subtle but equally important reason for this: 2) I'm flat-out exhausted trying to trim down my (ahem, awesome) ramblings in order to jam this list into the ridiculous-excuse-for-a-sidebar on the left of this blog.

There it is: my quasi-oprah-inspired yet practical reasons for listing a few of my favorite things (wow if you've made it this far into today's entry, thank you).

PART 1

"life in letters" song by lucy schwartz - I can't quit playing or humming or all out jamming to this song. If you haven't had the chance to listen to it yet, stop reading right here and saunter over to your nearest digital music haunt (itunes, amazon, etc.) and give it an ear.  I don't think you'll be disappointed. As a side note: how fabulous is this cover art?? These colors make me want to spin and twirl like an eight-year-old girl in a princess costume.

amy butler fabric is delicious--I want to swaddle my life in it! Since I'm new to sewing, I haven't paid all that much attention to textile brands or designers. There was no need to before. Now I'm a fabric-hunting junkie who's identified some designers that literally bring tears to my eyes (if only that was a joke).  If you're looking for some whimsical, colorful, tear-producing fabric, check out: http://www.amybutlerdesign.com/ for ideas and inspiration.  You can buy the fabric direct there, or head on over to etsy.com for scraps, smaller bundles, discontinued lines, etc. Happy Swaddling!

udi's gluten free, multi-grain bread - I was diagnosed with a gluten-intolerance almost four years ago and since then have been combing the earth far and wide (ok mainly the cities where I've lived, although if you count the internet then I have traversed the globe) for de-lish substiutions for my favorite foods. After trying a number of store bought breads I believe I have chanced upon a true gem. In fact, I'm confident that this old-world-style bread, when toasted and buttered, would make even the gluten-devouring crowd's mouth water and eyes close with pleasure. True confession: I'm having a hard time not devouring the loaf in two sittings. In fact, I need to toast a slice RIGHT NOW!
Well unfortunately that's all the time I have today. Tune in tomorrow for another breathtaking, heart-pounding reveal of "A Random Person's Favorite Things."  (ha ha ha) In the meanwhile, you stay classy, world, and thanks for stopping by (I couldn't resist one more Anchorman reference. This is terrible.)...but mainly stay classy.
