With only a few weeks between now and his first birthday, D is rapidly exhibiting all the energy, inquisitiveness and gumption so often attributed to little boys. Indeed, with each passing day I'm in awe of the transformation from baby to boy, from limited to limitless, from infant behaviors to distinct personality. At the risk of sounding cliche, it's the most profound thing I've ever observed.
What's been of particular delight to me is watching the similarities between his attempts to test himself, his strength and abilities, in order to see what he's capable of, and that of the grown boy in the house, B. In the last several weeks B has been thrust into a new season in his career, one of increased responsibility and scope. Like D, I've watched him test himself, his strengths and abilities, in order to see what he's capable of. Yesterday B was in the biggest meeting of his career and when he walked in the door last night, he had the same look as D when he first succeeded at standing on his own without holding on to anything.
As a woman I find that often the ways in which I feel tested, have to do with offering myself and my heart. Watching these two boys, I'm moved at their tests of strength. Each is looking to see if he has what it takes--if he's brave enough, courageous enough, strong enough. There have been and will be a plethora of times when each may hear from the world that the answer is no. But I know without question, that they have been made by their Creator who knows no mistakes. And therefore the answer to their masculine soul's question of do they have what it takes, with His help, is YES! I'm in awe of the gift and responsibility I have in both their lives to affirm that fact.
D and B: you both do have what it takes. I love you!
